Past, Present, Future

“No space of regret can make amends for one life’s opportunity misused”

~Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol

Now that you have at least a slight understanding of how we got to this point, I thought it might be helpful to understand a little more about the ghosts of housing past.  We filmed this “tour” right before we start packing up before closing.  We of course wanted to remember our first home.  The place where we began our married life together, put so much sweat into updating, and of course made some pretty sweet memories.

Wind Rock House Tour Part One

Wind Rock House Tour Part Two
The ghost of housing present is all luck.  Jared and are so privileged to have families that are willing to support us in this endeavor, including physically putting us up in their upstairs guest room.  We have significantly decreased “our” square footage, but we still have a very spacious bathroom and closet and our living quarters do not include a kitchen.  I definitely have a lot of wardrobe downsizing still left to be done and our tiny home will not reflect the “college dorm with classic rock posters” motif we have decided to go with in our temporary housing.

The ghost of housing future…well that is harder to show you, but we are currently using two sketches to show potential builders and architects.  We are in the process of “shopping” around for just the right company or builder.

We want someone who is experienced but also willing to take risks and be creative in terms of how they use the space.  We want someone who is willing to let us be a part of the project, whatever that may look like, but hopefully we will be able to get our hands dirty with some nail hammering, electrical wiring, plumbing, or something!  So this is the current project; finding a builder.  Below are some of those we have contacted but we are still looking and open to suggestions.  The ghost of Christmas Future may have been a scary grim reaper type, but hopefully our ghost of housing future will be much jollier…

  1. I love reading your story so far! So impressed that you’ve already made such great strides toward realizing your dream, and we’ll be rooting for you over here in DC.
My bro is actually in the process of building his tiny house, so let me know if you’d want to connect with a fellow curious Tiny House Dreamer!

  2. Thank you Amye! I would love to touch base with your bro and see what his doing!! The tiny house community is so great about sharing ideas, it would be cool to see how he has interpreted the movement.
